Welcome to the homepage of South Dakota’s first professional women’s tackle football team, the Sioux Falls Snow Leopards! We are proud members of the Women’s Football Alliance (WFA), the world’s largest and most competitive women’s tackle football league, with 40+ teams in the United States and internationally. Our league is split into Pro Divison, Division II and Division III, where we currently compete in the Division II level of play, among many of the best teams in the nation.

Do we really play professional tackle football?

The short answer – almost!

The slightly longer answer, the world of women’s tackle football is still growing, but it is growing rapidly. We proudly compete in the Women’s Football Alliance (WFA), a national league comprised of more than 40 teams across the United States. Last year, the WFA National Championship was aired across the country on ESPN and Women’s Sports Network, a first of its kind event for women’s football.

Additionally, our athletes are eligible for the same All-American honors as those in higher divisions, and our players can earn the same recognition as the pros in the esteemed Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio (where our championships are played). This ensures a high level of competition and meaningful exposure for all of our players, regardless of Division.

What is our history, and where are we now?

Although we are a relatively new team compared to most (established in 2021), we have progressed rapidly through the ranks in our short time. What began in 2021 as a Developmental Team, entered Division 4 in 2022. We then spent our 2023, 2024 and 2025 seasons battling and challenging ourselves in Division 3. After a fierce 2025 season and a deep playoff run, we have earned Division 2 status, just beneath the highest tier designated as Pro Division.

Due to leadership and personnel changes this past season, we have been granted an Expansion season this year, with a modified 2 game schedule (rather than our usual 6 games per season.) This means we have an amazing opportunity in 2026 to regrow our roster, exapnd our coaching staff, and rebuild our organizational infrastructure with the ultimate objective of advancing to the Pro Division in the future.

What if I don’t know much (or anything) about football? Can I still join?

Women’s tackle football is still relatively new, yet growing fast. This means most of our players, both past and present, didn’t grow up playing organized football like the boys, and joined without much or even any football experience or knowledge. In other words, if you’re new to the game, you’re in great company!

Our experienced coaches have spent their lives in football and are passionate about teaching the skills, strategies, and techniques of the game. While the learning curve can be steep, we find that women often excel at picking things up quickly, and many players are amazed at how much they grow in just one season!

So no, football knowledge is NOT a prerequisite, we can coach you up. What is required? Being teachable, driven, and hungry to learn. That passion has to come from within you… and if it’s there, we’ll help you master your craft, find your position on the field and teach you the game.

Can I try things out before committing?

Absolutely! We’ll be hosting mini-camps, open tryouts, and open practices throughout the 2026 season, giving both new and returning players plenty of opportunities to join the team.
